Mohrs

What is Mohs surgery?

Mohs Micrographic Surgery is the gold standard for the treatment of Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Basal Cell Carcinoma of the head and neck and areas of the body where preservation of normal tissue is imperative (i.e. fingers, toes, genitals).  With Mohs surgery, we can achieve cure rates of 99.9% and give the patient the smallest possible defect to reconstruct

Mohs is an outpatient procedure, performed in the office, where the Mohs surgeon removes the tumor under local anesthesia and then personally examines the tissue using a special type of frozen section analysis.  A more in depth discussion of Mohs surgery can be found here.

Why Should I Get a Skin Screening Exam?

Thousands of Americans die each year from skin cancers.  Many of these deaths could be prevented through a combination of self-examination as well as full body skin exam or skin screening by a Dermatologist.  When skin cancer is caught early, the risk of death or significant harm to the patient is reduced.  We recommend an annual skin survey for all patients, especially those with a past personal history of skin cancer or a family history of skin cancer.
